New student accommodation at the University of Hertfordshire’s College Lane campus has been shortlisted for a national Student Accommodation Award. The Hatfield based campus development is a finalist in the University Halls of Residence category in the annual awards.
The 3,000 bed student accommodation project, developed and managed by Uliving and built by Bouygues UK, brings to a conclusion a three year £120m redevelopment plan and marks a significant milestone in the University’s Estates 2020 Vision and the transformation of the College Lane campus.
The accommodation is generally arranged as either flats or town houses, with a small number of single occupancy studio rooms. The rooms are predominantly en-suite with several designed as conference rooms to meet the demand during University holidays for hotel standard accommodation. The increase in on-campus accommodation for students is part of the University’s vision to enhance students’ lives by creating a fully inclusive living and learning campus environment.
Our architects have done an absolutely magnificent job. I am delighted that we now have space for so many more students yet have managed to keep our wonderful green space on campus – Professor Quintin McKellar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Hertfordshire
When officially opening the new accommodation in October, Professor Quintin McKellar, Vice-Chancellor at the University, said:
“Our architects have done an absolutely magnificent job. I am delighted that we now have space for so many more students yet have managed to keep our wonderful green space on campus.”
Dan McCarthy Stott, Operations Manager for Uliving said:
“The transformation of the College Lane campus over the last three years has been truly incredible and we’re extremely proud to have created exceptional spaces for current and future students.
“Everyone involved in this project has contributed to delivering an exceptional campus experience for Hertfordshire students and being shortlisted for this award is a real testimony to the many partners involved in this project.”
The awards take place on the 7th December at the London Marriott Hotel and will be attended by student representatives, partners and University staff who contributed to the development and delivery of the new accommodation.
