Now in its seventh year, the Hobsons University conference was held in Monument in London this March, with some 200 attendees from across the EMEA region. Titled ‘Insight and Innovation for Competitive Advantage’, the conference debated the possible outcomes of the forthcoming UK general election and their potential impact on higher education. Emran Mian, director of the Social Market Foundation think-tank, explored this issue and joined Andy Blair from the University for the Creative Arts, Claire Lorrain from the University of Winchester and Donald McLeod from the University of Hertfordshire in a panel discussion.
Hobsons’ technology roadmaps were previewed, while Hobsons’ partners talked about their own experiences, practices and recommendations. University partners were also offered one-to-one time via the Hobsons Hub.
During the conference, Hobsons also revealed the findings of its third international student survey, which addressed the topic of defining and delivering value in the context of UK education. More than 15,000 international students applying to study in the UK responded to the survey, with findings being used to inform Hobsons’ partners’ marketing and recruitment strategies.
Break-out sessions in the afternoon were delivered by a variety of institutions on subjects including short-term campaigns and activity to achieve recruitment goals, aligning business processes with institutional goals through Radius, and how to stand out with your email communications. Picklejar Communications provided an interactive session on how to create winning content.
