Head to the Academic Venue Show

The show is an annual one-day exhibition to showcase the facilities of more than 40 top academic venues at the national level

Venuemasters is a marketing consortium, which has promoted facilities available to event organisers at academic venues for over 30 years. A not-for-profit organisation owned by its member venues, it works in conjunction with various conference departments to promote facilities to the UK ‘events industry’, valued at more than £39bn per annum.

Research conducted with its members in August 2015 showed the average annual turnover for hiring these facilities is £2.6m per venue. Over half (52%) of this income is from hiring ‘meeting space’ with nearly a third (31%) from the hire of ‘group accommodation’ and the remainder (17%) from other events such as banquets and the increasingly popular weddings market.

Venuemasters manages a full range of promotional activities to help raise awareness and understanding of these facilities with event organisers. One of the main digital platforms is the Venuemasters website, which attracts over 50,000 visits per annum, and includes a free enquiry service to help organisers contact venues.

Another very popular way to promote venues is via the Academic Venue Show, an annual one-day exhibition to showcase the facilities of more than 40 such venues on a national level. The event in Westminster on Wednesday 11 May 2016 will provide a unique opportunity for venue teams to meet up to 250 event organisers.

The show is constantly developing each year and continues to gain positive feedback. Over 80% of visitors in 2015 reported it had been ‘useful in finding new venues for their upcoming events’. Alex Penn, Head of Sales at Event Exeter commented: “The show enabled us to showcase our venue to new clients with great results. We have confirmed and pending bookings worth a total of £150,000.”

Venuemasters is delighted that University Business is an ‘Official Partner’ for the 2016 show. Chief Executive of the consortium, Terry Billingham, explained: “We’re looking forward to working with University Business to continue reporting on the commercial success of academic venues in the very competitive events marketplace.”

Registration is free to all event organisers. For more details visit www.academicvenueshow.co.uk.
