University’s cheerleaders win national university titles

Nottingham Trent University’s cheerleaders were crowned national university champions for the second consecutive year

The annual International Cheerleading Coalition (ICC) National Cheerleading Championships were held at the Capital FM Arena in Nottingham on Sunday 22 March.

The team of thirty five women performed their show-stopping cheerleading performance to retain the title of National Champion in the Level 3 all-girl university series against six universities and the Grand Champion title in Level 3 all-girl university series against 27 universities.

The team also gained the highest mark overall in the all-girl series across all levels and the second highest scoring team out of the all-girl and mixed teams, out of 43 other university teams.

Stefan Warren, head coach of the university’s Trent Tigers, said: “It was an unbelievably proud moment for me. What the girls have achieved in the past two seasons has been amazing. The competition was extremely tight and the event saw us compete against the UK’s best all-star and university cheerleading and dance teams.”

The Trent Tigers team were scored on skill level, execution and overall impression in stunts, tumble and dance. Their success has earned the team a bid to compete in the European Championships in July.
