University of the Arts, London makes two new senior appointments

Heather Francis and Professor Roni Brown join as as chief operating officer and deputy vice-chancellor for education respectively

University of the Arts London (UAL) has announced the appointment of Heather Francis as chief operating officer (COO) and Professor Roni Brown as deputy vice-chancellor for education.

Both will start their new roles in October.

Heather Francis is currently UAL’s chief financial officer and joined the provider in 2019 having previously worked as director of finance and resources at the Victoria and Albert Museum and at Save the Children International. As COO, her remit will now stretch beyond finance, legal and estates to include student marketing and recruitment, admissions and the academic registry.

As deputy vice-chancellor (education), Roni Brown will oversee the development and co-ordination of creative education across all six UAL colleges: Camberwell College of Arts, Central Saint Martins, Chelsea College of Arts, London College of Communication, London College of Fashion and Wimbledon College of Arts. She joined UAL in 2019 as head of London College of Fashion and pro vice chancellor, following senior roles at University for the Creative Arts in Farnham.

James Purnell, president and vice-chancellor of UAL, said: “Heather and Roni bring a wealth of knowledge and insights to these new roles. I look forward to continuing to work closely with them to build a UAL that delivers our social purpose, serving our students and society.”

In July, UAL announced the appointment of Chris Condron as chief digital officer, and Professor David Mba, deputy vice-chancellor (research, knowledge exchange and enterprise).

UAL is also seeking a new pro vice-chancellor and head of college for London College of Fashion and pro vice-chancellor and head of college for London College of Communication.
