The University of East Anglia (UEA) is offering a free ebook for education professionals who give advice and guidance to students making choices about progressing to university.
Drawing on the resources on its UniBox website, UEA has created the ebook to help advisers guide their pupils through the things they need to consider and the decisions they need to make. Topics included range from how to decipher university league tables to understanding Clearing and Adjustment.
With more than 50,000 courses offered at over 300 UK institutions, the opportunities are vast but the breadth of options can be daunting. Students are keener than ever to get the best value from their course and maximise their employment prospects, so picking the right subject at the right university is hugely important – but it’s only the start.
UniBox is an online hub full of practical tools and advice to help navigate the road to university, and prepare students for what they will experience when they get there. Although it was created by UEA, the advice is aimed at all prospective students no matter what university they might be considering attending.
“For young people thinking about going to university, these may be some of the most important decisions they have ever faced. We created UniBox to give their teachers and advisers extra resources in supporting their students, wherever they choose to apply’
The free ebook, “Guiding your Students to University”, distils that advice and is designed to get advisers and their students asking sensible questions along the way.
Claire Petley, Head of UK/EU Recruitment & Outreach at UEA, explains: “Advisers can’t tell their students what they will study and where, they have to help those young people find their own paths. With the UCAS submission deadline just around the corner in January, teachers and careers advisors will be prompting students to consider a great many things about what their futures might hold. Parents will have questions too. UniBox and the ebook will help guide the answers.”
The free ebook contains 10 insightful chapters including information on how to:
â— Advise students on how to make the right choice for their future
â— Help students research the opportunities open to them
â— Ask the right questions, rather than broadly advise
â— Decipher university league tables and show students how to do the same
â— Give comprehensive tips on writing an effective personal statement
â— Guide students through Clearing and Adjustment
â— Encourage students to understand the financial side of study
â— Support students and parents leading up to the transition.
