Northumbria University and Digital Media Services provider, StudentCom, have been awarded ‘Best Student Broadband’ by the National Student Housing Survey 2014.
The National Student Housing Survey is an annual survey of students in higher education across the UK and is undertaken by the independent market research agency Redbrick. The survey allows students to rate and provide comments on all types of accommodation, measuring levels of satisfaction and enabling participating institutions to measure their performance against national standards.
The award for ‘Best Student Broadband’ reflects the University’s understanding of the central role that technology plays in the lives of today’s tech-savvy students, both academically and socially speaking. Furthermore, the award demonstrates their commitment to delivering high standards across all areas of the University.
Having already successfully worked together for 4 years to deliver Broadband, TV and Phone services to its 2,800 student rooms, StudentCom were delighted to be re-awarded the contract back in September 2013. The new contract included the provision of a fully pervasive Wi-Fi service across the entire University estate including an additional 900 rooms from its brand new development Trinity Square, due to open this September.
The new Wi-Fi service, in place since September last year, means that students are now able to enjoy a fast and reliable internet service wherever they are in their accommodation and can connect with their ever-growing number of wireless devices including smart phones and iPads as they wander between their rooms and common areas.
Val Nicholls, Head of Student Accommodation comments: “Northumbria University is very happy that our longstanding, successful partnership with StudentCom has resulted in our students putting StudentCom broadband in our accommodation right at the top of this national survey. I am so pleased – thanks for delivering, as always.”
In addition to fully pervasive Wi-Fi throughout their accommodation, students at Northumbria University can also enjoy IPTV delivered straight to their laptop, offering a wide range of free to air channels and more recently Sky Sports. Thanks to an exclusive deal with Sky, students can now choose from daily, monthly, termly and yearly subscriptions with no minimum contract at extremely competitive prices and enjoy fantastic live sporting action from the comfort of their own room.
