During 2014, both Anglia Ruskin University and the University of Bedfordshire released tenders relating to the provision of managed internet services to their halls of residence on the basis that their existing contracts with StudentCom were coming to an end.
Having thoroughly reviewed the market via a formal OJEU procurement process, both universities elected to use StudentCom’s services once again, signing new contracts for a further five and four years respectively.
Paul Harris, Residential Service Manager at Anglia Ruskin University, explained the reasons behind their decision: “Our decision to stay with StudentCom resulted from a full tender that demonstrated their services were the best value for money for what is provided, and certainly met the specification we asked for”. StudentCom boast a range of services on their digital media platform, including high speed broadband, pervasive WiFi, TV, cloud backup, telephone and other online services. It is essential and expected by students that they receive a service from their accommodation providers which creates a home from home experience, which is why Internet service is now a key consideration for prospective students. Paul Harris supports this notion by stating, “Expectations regarding the internet are becoming increasingly significant, as the Internet is seen as an essential utility by students, and something they look for when choosing their accommodation”.
Students expect fast speeds and the ability to be able to connect multiple devices anywhere in their accommodation, which is why both Anglia Ruskin University and the University of Bedfordshire chose to deliver pervasive Wi-Fi, faster speeds and additional services upon renewing their contracts.
Since introducing the new services, both universities have reported positive feedback from students and are seeing an overall increase in satisfaction levels.
