Northampton appoints Dr Stephen O’Brien

Dr Stephen O’Brien has been appointed as Dean of the new Faculty of Health and Society at the Uni of Northampton, from August 2016

Dr O’Brien was previously a Principal Nursing Lecturer at Northampton, before joining Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen. More recently, at Coventry University, he provided strategic direction and academic leadership as Head of the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health.

Dr O’Brien joins the University of Northampton at a time of growth, with just two years before its £330m Waterside Campus in the town centre opens for students. He said: “I am excited to be joining the University of Northampton as it embraces change but maintains its emphasis on growth, excellence in teaching, research and innovation.”

Dr O’Brien is passionate about the importance of partnership working, which was the topic of his doctorate thesis. “At Northampton I will welcome the opportunity to further engage in this agenda to maximise both national and international opportunities for innovation, research, enterprise and social innovation.” The University has partnership agreements with institutions in the UK and around the world, working with partners from councils, clinical commissioning groups, local hospitals and the voluntary sector to deliver the county’s new Health and Wellbeing Strategy; which will be used to prioritise the development and delivery of health and wellbeing services in the county for the next four years.
