Leeds Met launches new leader centre

A new centre to address the need to develop excellence in leadership has been launched at Leeds Metropolitan University

With clients including NHS England, NHS Yorkshire and Humber and North East Lincolnshire Council, the Leadership Centre sits under Leeds Met’s Faculty of Business and Law.

Javelin ace Mick Hill and Dave Bunting MBE,who led an elite British team of mountaineers in an attempt to climb Mount Everest, were among panellists at the official launch event, held at the University’s Rose Bowl.

Head of the Leadership Centre, Danny Benton, commented: “The Centre aims to become a regionally and nationally renowned provider for action-oriented leadership development and research, building on the knowledge and skills of managers and leaders in order to create positive change.

“We offer a portfolio of professional and academic qualifications, services to business, leadership programmes and research that are responsive to the needs of modern day organisational life. We tailor our services to changing business demands and needs, most of which fall under the umbrella headings of Leadership and Management, Organisation Development, Coaching and Mentoring and Executive Development and Services to Business.”

The launch event included discussion with panellists Mick Hill, Olympian and Coach to Jessica Ennis-Hill; Dave Bunting, MBE, of Carnegie Great Outdoors; Jeff Gold, Professor of Organisation Learning at the Leadership Centre and Becky James, Director of Business Development at Institute for Leadership and Management (ILM).  Chaired by Senior Lecturer David Bassett, each panellist shared their experiences of successful leadership. It was followed by a networking session with drinks and canapés.

Dean and Pro Vice Chancellor of Leeds Met’s Faculty of Business and Law, Professor Christopher Prince, added: “The Centre’s experiential approach follows the principle that learning should be practically focussed, based on the problems, issues and needs of clients. Services are bespoke and tailored to match whatever companies and organisations require from delivering change effectively, to improving a workforce’s overall performance.”
