The Association of College and University Housing Officers – International (ACUHO-I) recently presented the award during the 2014 ACUHO-I Annual Conference & Exposition.
The Roelf Visser Global Initiatives Award honours dedicated housing professionals who have contributed to furthering strategic initiatives of ACUHO-I and its aims of becoming a pre-eminent international association.
Kington has been director of accommodation services at the University of Edinburgh for 11 years and a supporter of ACUHO-I for much of that time by attending numerous activities and initiatives including the annual conference, the ACUHO-I Global Housing Summit, and several study tours. Active within the UK based College and Universities Business Officers (CUBO), he was instrumental in CUBO becoming an ACUHO-I affiliate in 2010. Kington currently sits on the association’s membership committee focusing in particular on retaining current international members and further growing the association’s international membership.
Kington’s own experiences with ACUHO-I have enabled the University of Edinburgh to significantly expand and develop its residence life activities, support, and programs. Recruitment of residence life professionals from the United States was an important part of that development. The university continues to evolve its residence life activities, helped significantly by the many opportunities he and his team have had to engage with ACUHO-I and its members.
