StudentCom will be delivering its range of Digital Media Services, including a 15Mb broadband service and intelligent pervasive Wi-Fi to over 3,000 students at its halls of residence.
“The start of the academic year 2013 was the first full test of the service”, said Kate Peters from accommodation. “StudentCom managed the complete process, taking pressure off us and ITS. Feedback from students has been very good and this is a great example of how we can work with private companies to provide the best student experience in an efficient way.”
According to Andrew Pearce from IT Services “Students expect to be able to play games online, listen to music, stream films and make calls over the internet, all of which put pressure on networks”. He continues, “We were faced with replacing equipment, delivering wireless capability and increasing bandwidth.”
“Working with procurement, StudentCom were brought on board to help”, explains Andrew. “They provide round the clock support to our students and maintain all the hardware, minimising the strain on UWE resources.”
As for the future, Andrew explained: “We will continue to work closely with StudentCom to grow and develop the service in line with our student’s ever-growing expectations and we look forward to a long and valued partnership with them.”
