The Student Hotel CEO Charlie MacGregor met with The Hague city commissioner Marnix Norder at the MIPIM conference in Cannes recently to announce the company’s latest project after opening a showroom for interested new residents earlier this week.
The project adds 307 student rooms to the company’s portfolio.
All rooms are fully furnished and come complete with amenities, such as high speed WiFi, gym access, study facilities and even bicycles. The project is located on the Hoefkade, a short walk from The Hague HS train station, The Hague University of Applied Sciences and Leiden University College, The Hague.
But the project doesn’t stop there. Together with the city of The Hague, The Hague University and affordable housing corporation Staedion, The Student Hotel is also working on redeveloping the vacant next door shopping centre ‘Bazar’, including a covered winter garden and espresso bar.
The Hague is attracting significant interest from the student accommodation development community. Earlier, a nearby project of another Class of 2020 partner was announced. Xavier Jongen, Fund Director, European Residential Funds at Bouwfonds, signed an agreement with commissioner Norder at the MIPIM conference, unveiling a €54m plan for 303 student housing units and 153 studios next to the Hollands Spoor train station, just around the corner from the new Student Hotel location.
The Hague’s student population has grown quickly in recent years. Over 30,000 students now study in the city, about 5,000 of whom are international students.
