A postgraduate degree offered by Coventry University is the focus of a new partnership between the institution and the world’s only university backed by the International Olympic Committee.
The master’s course in sport management at Coventry – which has just been ranked best in its field in the UK and 12th in the world by the esteemed Eduniversal guide – will be taught as part of a joint programme with the Russian International Olympic University (RIOU) in Sochi.
As part of a joint programme between the universities, students will have the opportunity to work towards a double diploma awarded by Coventry and RIOU, and staff and students will also visit each other’s institutions to study and teach.
The Sport Management MSc has claimed number one spot in the UK for the past three years in the Eduniversal rankings, and has now broken into its top 15 worldwide in the 2014 guide – up from 22nd in 2013.
Coventry’s new MSc in event management also ranked third in the UK in its first entry into the table in the ‘Tourism and Hospitality Management’ category, placing 38th in the world.
Neville Clements, head of sports and event management at Coventry University, said: “On the eve of the Winter Olympics in Sochi, it’s fantastic that the world’s only university endorsed by the Games’ organising committees has elected to work with Coventry University to play a part in the delivery of its sport management degrees, and equally significant that our master’s programmes are being recognised by a globally-respected league table.
“Through both our Business School’s courses and through our world-renowned Centre for the International Business of Sport, we very much look forward to helping educate and shape the sports industry management professionals of tomorrow, both in the UK and as part of Sochi 2014’s legacy.”
