The University of Dundee has signed a seven-year partner agreement with leading enterprise software company TechnologyOne to help deliver an ambitious programme of business transformation.
The partnership will see the first UK implementation of the enterprise software company’s OneUniversity solution. It provides a modern cloud-based, fully integrated business system, accessible from any device, anywhere.
The OneUniversity solution underpins the University’s business transformation programme and provides a single, integrated source of information. This will enhance the delivery of its professional services and enable strategic decision-making to deliver a world-class student and staff experience.
Speaking about the transformation project, Ian Leith, the University of Dundee’s Director of Business Transformation, said: “For 50 years, we’ve transformed lives around the world through research and education. We’ve been recognised as Scottish University of the Year for two years running and are ranked as one of the world’s top 200 universities.
“But like many universities, we have a complex ecosystem of users, audiences and data. If we want to become Scotland’s leading university, we need to make the most of our resources. That means reducing that complexity and transforming the way we work at a cultural, organisational and technological level.
“Our business transformation programme, enabled by the OneUniversity solution, is a crucial element in delivering that. It will support our professional services across the entire University, improve the quality of our data, and offer simple, consistent processes and interactions wherever our users are and whatever device they use.
“The new solution will replace a variety of systems and databases that don’t talk to one another. It’s taking our One Dundee ethos and applying it to the tools and processes we use every day to transform lives.”
The project will address each of the following areas:
â— implementation of best practice ways of working to reduce duplication and improve efficiency
â— improve the governance of data across the University
â— enable strategic decision-making and planning through better management of information
â— ensure the delivery of efficient and effective services to Schools and the University community in line with University priorities
â— provide staff with access to the University’s systems through automation and self-service
â— and foster the culture of continuous improvement necessary to help drive the University towards its aim to become Scotland’s leading University.

Phase one of the programme is now underway and sees the design and implementation of the OneUniversity solution for Finance, Procurement, HR, Payroll, Pensions and Research. In addition, an enquiry management solution for prospective students will be implemented as part of this phase to support student recruitment. It is expected that Finance, Procurement and Research will be delivered in August 2017 with HR and Payroll following shortly afterwards.
Phase two addresses the full student lifecycle over a two-year implementation period from August 2017, starting with Enquiry to Matriculation, with delivery expected in August 2018; followed by Matriculation to Graduation/Alumni the following year.
