Venuemasters, the UK’s leading consortium representing 55 academic venues hosted their annual conference at Conference Aston in Birmingham on 16 – 17 November in a new packed two day format. The event, exclusively for personnel at academic venues, provided a balanced mix of learning and networking opportunities, including inspiring keynote speakers, practical workshops and a social evening.
The theme was based around ‘working together to help connect with our customers’. The event attracted over 80 delegates from academic venues across the country, with around half of the delegates attending the conference for the first time.
Attendees had the opportunity to hear feedback directly from event organisers with three workshops lead by an association, an event management agency and a summer school. Representatives from three academic venues also shared insights into the targets and challenges that they are facing within their own venues.
Academic venues continue to face some tough challenges and the Venuemasters Conference gives delegates a wonderful opportunity to learn from experts, network and share ideas with one another
Keynote speakers included Rebecca Jones, who inspired delegates to be more entrepreneurial, while Natalie Wiseman from BDRC Continental, kept delegates ahead of the game by sharing the results of their latest research into the meetings market. The social evening offered delegates the chance to network and discuss the day’s events in a less formal environment and enjoy some of the fantastic catering on offer at the venue.
The Conference was a hit with delegates with 90% rating the overall content as ‘excellent’ or ‘good’. Chair of the Venuemasters Board, Sarah Snow from Event Exeter said: “Academic venues continue to face some tough challenges and the Venuemasters Conference gives delegates a wonderful opportunity to learn from experts, network and share ideas with one another.”
