Unite Students shortlisted for social buzz award

Student accommodation provider’s London Student Experience project shortlisted for Drum’s ‘Social Buzz Awards’

Unite Students, the UK’s leading developer and operator of purpose-built student accommodation, is delighted to announce that its ‘London Student Experience’ project has been shortlisted for the Drum’s ‘Social Buzz Awards’ which celebrates and rewards the best contributions in social media communications in the UK.

The awards are considered among the UK’s most respected and highly coveted in the area of social media marketing.

Unite has been nominated in the ‘Budget’ category which considers effective and high quality marketing campaigns with a budget of under £20,000.

The ‘London Student Experience’, a first-of-its-kind project, sent 12 creative student bloggers on a 24 hour challenge to explore London and capture the best places to go and things to see and do on a student budget. The students and Unite team used Twitter, Instagram and blogs to plan their day and engage with local businesses and prospective students.

Taking a user-generated approach to this campaign enabled us to provide the students with the tools and inspiration to give them a head start in their careers

The campaign started taking shape after the results of a YouGov survey, commissioned by Unite, showed that around 46% of students will not be considering staying at their university location over the summer months due to a lack of available opportunities.

John Blanshard, Student Experience Director at Unite Students, said: “Unite Students’ core purpose is to provide a Home for Success for students and we are passionate about providing our students with a supportive and creative environment that is conducive to both their personal and academic development.

“Taking a user-generated approach to this campaign enabled us to provide the students with the tools and inspiration to give them a head start in their careers. The ‘London Student Experience’ is an ideal platform for the students to display their skills, gain relevant experience to enhance their CVs, as well as helping to show other students how and where they can spend their time between terms.

“Being nominated for a prestigious Social Buzz award is very exciting and sees us going up against major players in the social media marketing field including LateRooms.com, Warburtons and Join In.”

Winners will be revealed at the awards ceremony being held on Wednesday 25th November in the Marriott Grosvenor Square, London.
