Unite secures planning for new Aberdeen site

The Unite Group has received planning consent for a high-quality 600-bed student residence in Aberdeen city centre

The site is located in the city centre on Constitution St and is, a short walk to the University of Aberdeen and close to transport links connecting it to Robert Gordon University.

The scheme will have a total development cost of around £45 million and is expected to deliver a development yield of around 9.3%.

The property will consist of three blocks, made up of 145 studio and cluster flats totalling 600 bedrooms and will range in height up to a maximum of nine storeys.

The redevelopment of this brownfield site through construction of high quality and environmentally sound accommodation, with well designed landscaped areas, will provide a safe and secure home for the growing numbers of students attracted to the city

Unite Students currently operate four properties in Aberdeen providing a home for approximately 1,300 students in the city.

Richard Simpson, Managing Director of Property for Unite Students: “The redevelopment of this brownfield site through construction of high quality and environmentally sound accommodation, with well designed landscaped areas, will provide a safe and secure home for the growing numbers of students attracted to the city.

“Aberdeen continues to develop as a thriving University City, attracting students from across the UK and internationally. Students continue to be important contributors to the local economy and this redevelopment will ease pressure on private residential housing in the area.”
