Bournemouth University has completed a transaction with property developer Threesixty Developments for the delivery of a new facility for the University’s Faculty of Health and Social Sciences. A joint planning application for a purpose built, 10,000 square metre facility to house the faculty along with a 550 bed student development on the University’s Lansdowne Campus is due to be submitted in spring 2016. The submission of the planning application will smooth the path for delivery of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences’ academic building in 2018 followed by the new student accommodation in 2019.
Threesixty’s Development & Transaction Director, Christian Davis, commented on the landmark arrangement: “This has been a long and delicate transaction that has sought to protect the interests of both the University and Threesixty Developments,
“We still have some way to go with the planning permission to ensure that the buildings meet their expectations and provide a positive contribution to the area, but with the progress achieved so far we’re confident this will be the case.”
Bournemouth University’s Jim Andrews, Chief Operating Officer, commented: “Securing this landmark site to develop our next major academic facility is a key part of our Estates Development Plan. We are delighted that this complex commercial transaction is now complete and we can continue our focus in delivering world class facilities that will benefit our staff and students, as well as the communities in Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset.”
The addition of more student housing to Bournemouth University will see both parties entering into a long term business relationship. The Student Housing Company, Threesixty Development’s sister company, has been put forward to operate the student accommodation and Bournemouth University will benefit from a referral agreement that will guarantee much needed accommodation to first year overseas students.
