Fraser Brown MacKenna Architects have secured planning approval for 114 new studio rooms and provide improved facilities at Sherbourne House, an existing hall of residence in central Coventry, for Sherbourne Holding Ltd.
The new building is located on an infill site on the campus. An efficient plan ensures that the new development doubles the capacity of the site whilst providing significantly improved amenity space for all students, within a volume that responds sensitively in height and scale to the surrounding buildings.

Clad in brick with a timber face to the new landscaped courtyard, which serves both new and existing residences, the principal elevation responds to the former town hall opposite and significantly improves the quality of the street scene along Meadow Street.
The highly energy-efficient design incorporates a combined heat and power plant, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery and facade greening. The main contractor, Pickstock Construction, will utilise modular construction to deliver the building, which is expected to be complete by September 2016.
