Bison precast chosen for Glasgow project

Bison Manufacturing will supply its precast concrete components for two new campuses at the City of Glasgow College

Working closely with structural engineer, Arup and main contractor, Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd, the project will see Bison design, manufacture and deliver over 58,000sqmof its leading precast hollowcore flooring, as well as a large number of precast stair units, to the college’s new Riverside and City Campus developments.

Bison’s concrete units, manufactured at the company’s Uddingston plant in Scotland, will be supplied complete with the Bison’s patented mechanically inserted lifting hooks, for ease, speed and safety of installation.

Mike Nelson, sales and commercial manager at Bison, said: “The City of Glasgow College is undertaking large scale works that will be of great benefit to the city, and we’re proud to be supplying so many components to the project from our Uddingston factory.

“Our flooring and stair units have long been specified in education projects for their durability, quality and ease of installation – and we’re looking forward to supporting the project team during the build.”

Once complete, this £228m dual campus development will cater for over 40,000 student enrolments per annum. The estate represents a very significant investment in further education in the city.  It will include specialist industry standard learning environments for a wide range of curriculum areas including Engineering, Nautical Studies, Creative Industries, Construction, Food & Hospitality and many other important industry sectors.

The construction of Riverside Campus is expected to be completed in August 2015, with City Campus to follow in August 2016.
