Abertay University is investing around £3 million in upgrade and refurbishment works in the north wing of the Kydd Building, it’s main teaching and research block.
Beginning this month, Morrison Construction will upgrade two existing laboratories on Level 5, carry out major refurbishments on Level 4, and make some alterations on Level 3.
The most visible part of the works will be a complete reconstruction of the southern façade of the north wing. The University has released an artist’s impression of how the new façade will echo and extend the distinctive Abertay campus style, as well as contributing to reducing the building’s environmental impact by improving its energy efficiency.
The spaces to be remodelled are currently occupied by Abertay’s School of Science, Engineering and Technology. The School will use the new facilities for its teaching and research activities across a range of courses in science and technology that require specialist laboratories.
The works will begin over the summer and continue until the end of the year, with the most disruptive phases scheduled for the summer vacation. They are the first phase of a major improvement of facilities at the University planned over the next few years.
