Barcelona-based Melon District and Amsterdam-based The Student Hotel will have a combined portfolio of over 3,000 rooms in 2015. Their hybrid business model allows them to serve the accommodation needs of students, interns, trainees and the millennial generation.
The Student Hotel is already expanding its 1,650 beds in the Benelux region with three new projects under development and several more in the pipeline.
Melon District has 600 beds open in Barcelona and 190 opening in Paris this year.
The new group aims to have 10,000 rooms open by 2020, including the development of Melon District’s existing pipeline in Italy, Spain and France.
Melon District founder Fabien Mollet-Viéville commented: “We have a history of successfully working together and are very excited about combining and leveraging our expertise and understanding of what students want and need.
Charlie MacGregor, founder and CEO of The Student Hotel added: “This combination of two innovative and complementary student accommodation groups will accelerate our joint plans to grow in Europe’s leading university cities. Fabien and I have known each other for a number of years and this deal combines two companies with the same DNA, both putting the student experience at its heart.”
