Key appointment for Cambridge Uni masterplan

Research and teaching facilities planned over 20-year period at Cambridge University

Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios has been appointed for the masterplanning of the Cambridge Biocentrum at the University of Cambridge.

The exercise will involve an analysis of the Biological Sciences buildings on the Downing and Old Addenbrooke’s sites in the centre of Cambridge, to determine their fitness for purpose for 21st century, world-class research and teaching environments.

The concept is to develop a scheme that provides greater flexibility of usage for a variety of thematic research clusters based around the current biological sciences departments that occupy the two sites, and incorporate new social, teaching and learning facilities for a key area of the Cambridge Tripos curricula.

The output will be a masterplan that allows for discrete phasing over a 20-year period, providing a range of flexible new build accommodation whilst allowing for renovation of more precious existing buildings.
