Fire at Bristol’s Fry Building

Second major blaze breaks out at a Bristol University property in recent years

Firefighters were seen tackling a huge blaze at a Bristol University building over the weekend.

The Fry Building is currently undergoing refurbishment and was due to reopen in summer 2018.

Nobody is believed to have been injured in the blaze.

It appears the fire was mainly confined to the roof but there is the possibility of some fire damage to the top floor.

The Fry Building used to house Bristol University’s School of Biological Sciences. Plans for the reopened Grade II listed building included a new entrance lobby, atrium, courtyard and landscaped terrace.

This fire is the second major blaze to break out at a Bristol University property in recent years.

As a precaution, the library in the Wills Memorial Building, the Grace Reeves study centre in the Geographical Sciences Building have been temporarily closed.
