What best illustrates the excellent student experience you are offering?
RED Academy imitates a real working agency model where students assume the role of the junior designer, marketer or developer, and the instructors are the directors. We provide a strong creative environment and the opportunity for students to work on real client projects to give them first-hand experience of what a typical working day might look like. As well as being exposed to an industry they want to enter, the hands-on, practical activities gives students the advantage of building an impactful set of soft and applicable skills including problem-solving, communication and creativity.RED provides a comfortable learning environment coupled with expert instructors who have years of professional experience and a true understanding of what it takes to succeed in the tech sector. Students learn through group collaboration and a curriculum that reflects the hottest industry updates. Our lessons are geared towards building a strong work ethic integrated with communication and professional skills.
What recent developments at your campus best show your commitment to boosting student experience?
With proven success in Canada, RED has expanded to bring its innovative learning approach to the UK. Making our home in London, the RED curriculum offers full and part-time courses to suit our students’ availability and career stages. Because our instructors come directly from the industry and a lot of our part-time instructors are still active within the industry, it means we always have our fingers on the pulse of the tech sector. We also update our curriculum constantly to make sure we’re aligned with any new software, trends and technology.
Are we doing enough to ensure that international students have the best possible experience? Are the potential effects of Brexit for our European students any clearer now?
We offer international students constant support throughout the Visa application process and can help put our potential students in touch with the right people. While Brexit negotiations remain uncertain, London is still in a fantastic position at the centre of the tech community.
In fact, the number of technology firms setting up in the UK has more than doubled in the months following the Brexit vote, therefore having a presence in the centre of London means our students will be able to experience the benefits of this great city and the career opportunities on offer. London retains its position as a leading city for tech with start-ups and large enterprises alike choosing to make their home here and with tech giants such as Amazon and Google retaining large scale operations in the UK, we are in a position to offer students fantastic industry connections.
The British Government continues to invest in the country’s position as a global tech leader and will likely continue to welcome talent from across the globe, which is why we will continue to support international students and ensure they are given the best possible experience to help them develop the relevant skills needed to access future career opportunities.
With tuition fees continuing to rise, how might students’ expectations change?
With tuitions fees on the rise, students are likely to start demanding more for their money. Seeking means of education that can provide students with a stepping stone into industry for more accessible prices will become more commonplace, allowing them to see a direct link between what they are learning and how it can be put into practice in the workplace
Finally, how would you sum up the best ‘student experience’?
For us, the best student experience encompasses an environment that inspires both staff and students alike to learn key skills and develop as people so that they can lead more meaningful, fulfilled and rewarding lives. Students should be provided with the right skills needed for the digital economy that gives them both relevant education, work experience and industry connections.
