What a thrilling honour for TUCO and its members, to secure so much recognition from our industry luminaries for the work they do on a daily basis. For my own part, I was truly astonished and humbled to pick up the public sector award for my contribution in championing university caterers and eating for good health.
In only its third year, our innovative TUCO Academy was awarded the training and apprenticeship award. This was presented for its best-in-class learning and development programme. The TUCO Academy has firmly established itself as an essential tool for university caterers and managers, supporting members to retain, attract and upskill staff.
Julie Barker was deservedly awarded the public-sector lifetime achievement award. As TUCO chair, she was a champion of our research, our sustainability agenda and effectively continues to encourage healthy eating within higher education. Her strong values for the development of more food and beverage outlets have helped provide university caterers a positive future.
“With this industry recognition, and our procurement service delivering in excess of £10m of savings to our members, there has never a better time to get involved with TUCO.”
Three more TUCO members picked up awards. The University of Huddersfield took home two, both the innovation award and the university award, whilst Royal Holloway, University of London were bestowed the chef award.
Michaela Booth of The University of Huddersfield, who was responsible for the innovation award win has delivered an outstanding service at The University of Huddersfield whilst overall the entire team is delivering some excellent initiatives.
Carol Vallejo, chef from Royal Holloway, University of London was presented with the chef award for her exceptional menus. Over time, Carol has successfully proven how delivering more vegan, vegetarian and international cuisines can reap dividends.
As a not-for-profit catering organisation, our focus is entirely on our members and the benefits we bring them. With this industry recognition, and our procurement service delivering in excess of £10m of savings to our members, there has never a better time to get involved with TUCO.
