Organisers have announced that the 7th Annual UK Young Restaurant Team of the Year Competition 2018 will include a Latin American Cuisine theme.
David McKown, Director of Skills for Chefs commented: “We are very excited that Robert Ortiz a pioneer of Peruvian cuisine, will be our special guest judge for the Grand Final and this will help elevate the status of this national competition.”
Robert received the ultimate culinary recognition in 2013 when Lima was awarded a Michelin star. In 2014, Lima Floral – a new sister restaurant in Covent Garden – opened, with Robert positioned as Executive Chef of both this new branch and the original Lima London. McKown added: “Teams will have to come up with a menu that features fish, beef and chocolate and our judges will be expecting dishes with great flavour that are served with style.”
Ten teams will be selected for the semi-finals in May with the best five teams competing in the Grand Final on Wednesday 4th July 2018. The five teams in the Grand Final will be guests of the 21st Skills for Chefs Conference and the winners will be announced at a Gala Awards Dinner.
The prize for the wining team will be a study tour to Colombia sponsored by MSK Ingredients. The tour will include a visit to Granja Luker one of the few cocoa research centres in the world together with restaurant experiences and food treks.
The closing date for entries is 2 March 2018.
