Welbilt and University Hospitality Seminars launch series of events
SPONSORED: University Hospitality Seminars Ltd have partnered with Welbilt to offer a suite of learning events for the higher education sector throughout the year
University Hospitality Seminars and Welbilt have already worked together over a number of years to deliver international study tours for senior hospitality directors, executive chefs and retail managers within the university sector. This collaboration now offers a series of tours that have been strategically designed to maximise the experience of this leading sector training provider and global provider of cooking solutions.
Andy Daniels, culinary lead/brand specialist at Welbilt and ultimately responsible for the sector, commented “Welbilt are extremely proud to be able to partner with UHS Ltd to enable knowledge share and growth potential to operators from the UK’s leading universities – as we draw together our delegate groups for the events across the coming year, I take pride in being able to provide insight and interest to forward-thinking catering teams within the great university sector I’m lucky to work with here in the UK.”
The first event is the Merrychef Retail Study Tour in Sheffield, a two-day residential learning experience on 28–29 March. The programme includes the impact of special diets on the food offer at universities, retail success factors and the benefits of innovative technology in delivering a great catering experience.
David McKown, director of UHS, commented, “The programme is rich in content with keynote sessions from Peter Anstess, general manager retail at The University of Sheffield and Ivan Hopkins, head of catering and hospitality at Nottingham Trent University.”
On 10 May a cohort of senior commercial managers will travel to Canada to visit four world-class institutions to learn about sustainable food, hospitality trends, student dining services and leadership. Daniels says, “The Canadian tour will build on our support and infrastructure capabilities so that the experience delivers a series of learning points that can be applied back at UK institutions.”
The tour will take in visits to Toronto University, Queen’s University, Carleton University, McGill University and Garland Canada, a classic equipment brand that is a key part of Welbilt’s company portfolio. The programme will also put the spotlight on leading professionals at each Canadian university who have agreed to deliver presentations to this eminent study tour group.
Ian Macauly, director of catering at The University of Edinburgh, said: “I am looking forward to being part of this study tour in order to see four world-leading universities, some of similar size to the University of Edinburgh, but also the presentations focusing on sustainability, diet & allergens, plant forward, brands and leadership which all align with our current strategies and operational priorities.”
The third in the series of study tours aimed at different key roles within University Commercial Services is the Convotherm Solutions Study Tour to Bavaria on 26–29 November.
This tour will look at identifying solutions for the challenges that can impact on the largest and smallest catering events. Andy Daniels commented: “The programme will explore the changing fashions that have an impact on menus, service styles and delivery of functions, making this a perfect learning tour for senior chefs.”
The tour will make use of the excellent facilities at Convotherm’s zero carbon neutral headquarters and global manufacturing plant in the picturesque village of Eglfing nestled in the foothills of the Alps, Bavaria, Germany. The trip will be enhanced with visits to cutting-edge operators in the region. Joining the tour is Andrew Bennett MBE, Chair of the Craft Guild of Chefs, who said: “When I was the Executive Chef at The Sheraton Park Lane, banqueting was key to our success and I look forward to sharing with the tour group the various options available to chefs and front of house managers in order to maximise efficiency and deliver commercial benefits.”
David McKown added: “We are delighted that UHS can offer these programmes at discounted rates due to the generous support from Welbilt. In addition, CUBO members receive 25% discount against the general rate.”
