Sara Cox opens Staffordshire Uni’s Stoke Campus

The presenter told students to "go forth and be fabulous"

Television and radio presenter Sara Cox has launched Staffordshire University’s Stoke campus in a blaze of confetti.

The host of the BBC’s Great Pottery Throw Down was given a tour of the University’s Cadman Studios – home to TV and film, music and computer games design courses – before taking to the stage to formally launch the new Stoke-on-Trent campus.

Have the time of your lives, learn a lot, go forth and be fabulous and get all Stoked up – Sara Cox, presenter

Addressing the students, she said: “If you’re studying here you’re really lucky. £40m has been spent on all this amazing stuff. Have the time of your lives, learn a lot, go forth and be fabulous and get all Stoked up.”

The campus launch party was host to celebrity film screenings, live graffiti art, street entertainment, performances by student bands and artists and a silent disco. The buzz was such that #AllStokedUp was trending on Twitter before Sara even got the party started.

Professor Liz Barnes said: “Sara was a lot of fun, has a genuine affinity with our area and was really impressed by our facilities. Several of our aspiring journalists and radio presenters got to interview her about her own career and I look forward to seeing and hearing the results.”

“It was great to see our Stoke-on-Trent campus come alight after dark and we really hope many more members of our community take the opportunity to come on to campus this Saturday and Sunday.”
