More universities are adopting Pay360’s eShop solution to make life simpler for students and parents, and for the universities too.
Along with buying a house or a car, attending university is easily one of the biggest investments a person can make. Having a convoluted or outdated transaction system for payments could exacerbate this already anxiety-inducing event.
The evidence for this is apparent. For example, market and online research companies like Statistica and Baymard Institute often list ‘mid-checkout’ account registrations as a top reason for customers abandoning shopping carts.
It’s issues like these that Pay360 sought to tackle when launching eShop and it did so by working with around 70 universities and colleges to determine what would make the best online experience for students, parents and educational institutions.
The research results gathered revealed that parents and students expect a slick user experience. Users want to complete payments in a few clicks, using a system that works on mobile devices and across multiple channels seamlessly.
From the point of the education providers, the research showed a completely different set of needs. The solution would have to allow universities or colleges to implement various forms of promotional offers, manage bookings for several activity types, and ensure communications reached the right audiences.
The latter point necessitated combining marketing automation and a customer relationship management system. This feature would determine habits around what courses and events students undertook so communications could be better targeted, and the educational bodies could establish if the communications were being received and read. In turn, this would help to enhance the student experience.
The eShop solution Pay360 has introduced addresses these needs and includes guest checkout, to combat shopping cart abandonment. However, Pay360 wanted to cover all eventualities and therefore added some extra features. For instance, Pay360 included a staff assistance feature, in case students and parents want help completing transactions.
The increasing number of universities and colleges taking up Pay360’s eShop and the feedback educational bodies provided is evidence of the project’s success.

Tracey Angio, head of procurement at Sparsholt College, said: “Our credit control administrator finds it much easier to load products into eShop than our previous online store and has been really impressed with Pay360’s support throughout.”
