University of Westminster opens new architecture studios

The University of Westminster’s £5.2 million redevelopment of its architecture studios has reached its completion.  

The new studios elevate the University of Westminster as one of the UK’s leading centres for the study of Architecture and the Built Environment. The cutting-edge facilities offer students exceptional opportunities to fulfil their creative potential and become recognised figures in the world of architecture and design.

Chancellor of the University of Westminster Lady Frances Sorrell and the Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Geoffrey Petts were keynote speakers at the opening event in December. David Dernie, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment and Harry Charrington, Head of the Department of Architecture, discussed the importance of reforming the studio for sustaining the creative industries in central London.

The University of Westminster architecture studios have been upgraded significantly with new cutting-edge technology since the building was first constructed in 1971. With expanded IT provision, larger working spaces and, high quality equipment as well as upgraded environmental performance, the University aims to continue supporting its students and producing world leading and internationally excellent research, as recognised in the most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF) assessment.
