Conference fever is building

By Matthew White, Chair of the University Caterers Organisation (TUCO) and Director of Catering, Hotel and Conferencing at the University of Reading

Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow is the theme for this year’s TUCO annual conference, and what an event it is turning out to be.

Our prestigious line-up of industry speakers will be supported by this year’s host, Sky News presenter and Sunrise anchor Stephen Dixon. Dixon will expertly navigate conference delegates through this year’s exciting schedule, which includes keynote speakers Alan Johnson MP, Priya Lakhani OBE, Andy Cope and The Black Farmer; Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones.

Other speakers include food writer and critic Matthew Fort, who will take us on a journey through food past and present, and Andrew Dargue, of Vanilla Black, who will take a look at plant-based catering. Running alongside this will be several exciting breakout sessions including one from Professor Margaret Bates of the University of Nottingham. Bates will discuss the role of packaging in our lives, looking in depth at the myths, realities and future of packaging.

Hosted by the University of Hull, on 23rd–25th July, the conference is a three-day, must-attend event for anyone involved in catering for further and higher education. With an exceptional line up, the conference also hosts a supplier exhibition showcasing brand-new product innovations.

TUCO procurement services continue to expand at a pace, and as you can see from this month’s University Business supplement we have many new and exciting procurement tools to enable members to cut costs and increase operational efficiencies.

Our new services, Further Competition Service and TUCO Local, will enable members to secure added value for their procurement frameworks. The goal of the Further Competition Service is to provide one-to-one support to further drive down prices, whilst TUCO Local will enable members to purchase safely from local suppliers and farmers. We will be discussing both in more depth at the conference, so feel free to approach the TUCO team to discuss.

Ultimately the TUCO Conference is a fantastic opportunity to professionally network and share industry best practice. We very much look forward to seeing you there!

Book your place for the July 23-25 event – from only £315 per person – by calling 0344 571 8208, emailing conference@tuco.ac.uk or visiting tuco.ac.uk/conference.
