Building for Tomorrow, Today is the follow-up to Data and The Student Experience, the research report released by ASK4 in early 2019. Jointly commissioned with amber energy, the latest report in ASK4’s Connected Living series tackles the important and immediate issues of sustainability, and how the PBSA sector can further reduce its environmental impact ensuring their buildings and operations are as sustainable and efficient as possible, without affecting the bottom line.
A number of key individuals from the Purpose-Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) sector were brought together at a round table event, hosted by Red Brick Research earlier in the year, in order to understand the unique issues faced by developers and operators with regards to sustainability. The opinions expressed at the event were used to inform the key considerations presented in the report, along with a range of expert sources exploring the opportunities of green buildings, Internet of Things technology and health and wellbeing.
The report demonstrates the collective desire from PBSA owners and operators to be sustainable, but a lack of knowledge and understanding of how to implement practices has long been holding the sector back. The report highlights that there are many different benefits to committing to building sustainably, from reduced operating costs through to a wider appeal to the all-important student cohort of the future.
