Professor Bradshaw is currently Chair of Molecular Biophysics, Assistant Principle of Researcher Development and International Dean of the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine at the University of Edinburgh. He is due to take up his new appointment in February 2018.

As Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International & Doctoral), Professor Bradshaw will be responsible for the growth and development of the University’s new doctoral College as well as leading the international development of the institution and enhancing its reputation for excellent doctoral provision.

Professor Bradshaw studied for his undergraduate and MPhil degrees in Zoology at the University of Oxford before joining the University of Edinburgh as a Research Fellow in 1985. He has a well-established research career in the area of biophysics, developing novel methods to investigate the relationship between structure and function of biological molecules.

He has extensive experience in doctoral training, having supervised 40 postgraduate students, and previously worked as Head of the Graduate School (2007-2009) and as Director of Postgraduates (2009-2013) at the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine at Edinburgh.

The University of Bath is highly respected within the UK, with a reputation for excellent student experience. It is less well-known internationally

As International Dean of the College since 2009, Professor Bradshaw has been responsible for leading the development of the college’s international strategy and coordinating the recruitment and academic management of international research, staff and PhD links and exchanges.

Professor Bradshaw said: "The University of Bath is highly respected within the UK, with a reputation for excellent student experience. It is less well-known internationally.  I see my new role as one of helping the world to see what a great university Bath is, and what a great place it is to study. This will include working with staff and students to build high-value partnerships with key universities across the globe and building on the University’s existing reputation, to ensure that Bath becomes a world leader in innovative doctoral education.”

Vice-Chancellor and President of the University, Professor Dame Glynis Breakwell, added: “We are delighted to be welcoming Professor Bradshaw to this newly created role that will encompass both doctoral training and international. With his skills and experience, we anticipate that Professor Bradshaw’s appointment will help us to realise our ambition to become an international leader in graduate education."
