Academic Venue Awards: preview

Conference News’ annual Academic Venue Awards return for another year in partnership with Kinetic Solutions

The nominations were published in late October, and now the countdown is on with the awards set to take place on 27 November at the University of Birmingham’s Great Hall.

Julie Zacaroli, general manager, Conferences and Events, at host venue University of Birmingham, is excited to welcome key stakeholders in the sector. She said: “The Academic Venue awards are a highlight on the industry’s calendar, and we are excited to welcome everyone for what will be an enjoyable evening.”

Liz Agostini, publishing director at Conference News, was keen to stress the vital role academic venues play in providing alternative meeting spaces. She said: “There’s no typical blueprint for an academic venue, so we see such a variety of offerings across the country. The key aspect that binds them is their strength in customer service and versatility.

“This year’s nominations have raised the bar once more, with the judges commenting positively on the high quality range of submissions. We wish the very best of luck to everyone and look forward to celebrating with them.”

What does winning an Academic Venue Award actually mean to a venue? Speaking after winning three awards in 2017, MEETinLeeds’ Natasha Rahanu said: “It was fantastic to win three Academic Venue Awards. The University of Leeds does a lot of conferences, both academic and international and we work really hard as a team to make it happen. It’s great to get recognition for the work that we do.”

Tickets are still on sale for the 2018 event. Event organisers can apply for free tickets through the website: www.academicvenueawards.co.uk
