Student-proof accommodation solutions

There is no doubt about it - student accommodation is, in a word, booming. Far gone are the days of a grotty shared kitchen, 2 showers to a floor and bedroom limited to a bed, a desk and a wardrobe. Today’s students expect clean and modern accommodation, comfortable social spaces, and personalisation. At Godfrey Syrett, we understand all of this, which is why we have developed ‘Work, Rest & Play’ – our range of furniture solutions for accommodation.

“One trend that we are seeing time and time again is the need for students to be able to personalise and accessorise their accommodation, and make it feel like home” says Mark Richards, Design Manager at Godfrey Syrett. “This requires plenty of storage, shelving and configurable furniture in the bedroom areas, and open and welcoming cooking and social spaces.”

To achieve this, we’ve designed a holistic combination of modular solutions which offer maximum functionality, without compromising on style or personalisation. ‘Work, Rest & Play’ allows each area of accommodation to be clearly defined, with placement of specific pieces of furniture which complement the fitted pieces throughout. Several pieces are reconfigurable, increasing usability – for example, a desk return can double up as a bedside cabinet or window seat.

Our Design and Space Planning teams have a significant amount of experience, and work closely with our accommodation customers to pull together a layout that reflects their vision, using BIM compliant software and presented in a CGI format. They can use their knowledge and experience to make suggestions on the best way to tackle a request or requirement.

We have worked directly with Universities on their accommodation projects, as well as with private investors and some of the country’s biggest main contractors, like Balfour Beatty, Laing O’Rourke, Carillion and Sir Robert McAlpine.

One recent project we’ve worked on is the Fraser Court accommodation building at the University of Edinburgh, where we worked with the University to develop a range of student bedrooms for the refurbishment of one of their sites.

As a manufacturer we have total control over the design and manufacture of our furniture and offer an attractive range of finishes and fabrics to choose from. Our experienced installation teams will install all products on site, and also take away any packaging ready to be reused or recycled.
