Plymouth Uni appoints Deputy Vice-Chancellor

University of Plymouth has announced the appointment of Professor Simon Payne as Deputy V-C for International & Planning

The University of Plymouth has announced the appointment of Professor Simon Payne as Deputy Vice-Chancellor, International and Planning.

With a professional and academic law career spanning more than 30 years, Professor Payne has held key senior leadership roles within the University since 2004. They have included Head of the School of Law, Associate Dean (International), Acting Dean of Business, Dean of Academic Partnerships, and most recently as Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor.

Professor Payne has successfully led a range of strategic initiatives for the University, including the development of its international strategy and its high profile international partnerships. He has also led the University’s strategic planning process and the review of its academic portfolio.

Professor Judith Petts, CBE, Vice-Chancellor of the University, said: “Simon has already played a leading role in helping to establish Plymouth as a university of significantly increasing international repute and reach. He has a wealth of experience and is highly respected among our staff and students. We wish him every success in this important role.”

Professor Payne added: “I am a longstanding and determined advocate of the University of Plymouth – what we are here to do, and why. International development is my passion, based on a strong belief that all good universities are strongly engaged internationally in their teaching, research and student experience. I look forward to the opportunity to apply my focus on developing the University’s international strategy to deliver this effectively across the breadth of the institution.”

Professor Payne took up his new role on 1st January 2017.
