Manchester Metropolitan University has announced the appointment of Professor Andrew Gibson as the new Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

Professor Gibson joins the University in February 2017 from the University of Manchester, where he is currently Head of the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering.  Prior to this appointment he was Head of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Manchester from February 2009 until June 2012.

Professor Gibson has a DSc in Microwave Engineering and 25 years’ experience in researching and consulting over high power circuits for radar systems.

He gained international recognition for the application of multi-physics finite element techniques to high power, nonlinear, nonreciprocal ferrite components.

Professor Gibson said: “I am extremely passionate about science and engineering, and excited about the prospects at Manchester Metropolitan. It is a very exciting time for science and engineering in the city and the University is well-placed to take advantage of these opportunities.”

Vice-Chancellor Professor Malcolm Press said: “I am thrilled to be welcoming Andy to Manchester Metropolitan as our new Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Science and Engineering. Andy not only has a strong research profile but also extensive experience of science and engineering education. His track record in transforming the prospects of two departments at his current institution is exemplary.  I am confident that we will benefit enormously from his expertise, wisdom and vision. We look forward to welcoming Andy to the University and I am certain that he will make a strong addition to our senior leadership team.”
