Meeting the needs of today's Student Accommodation sector

The construction and development of student accommodation premises has increased dramatically in recent times

The construction and development of student accommodation premises has increased dramatically in recent times. This is a direct impact of the growing demand for university places, and the justifiably higher expectations of today’s student when it comes to their accommodation facilities.

A major part of that development has been in security.  Traditionally, students were given a mechanical metal key to access their cluster and flat, however with the large loss rate of keys this was costly and time consuming.  Access control systems are now widely specified throughout student accommodation estates, where a single key card or fob will be used to operate a multitude of doors. Student access is often time restricted on communal doors such as the gym or laundry room. For example, the key card may only permit access between 8am and 8pm.

TLJ Security Systems have been at the forefront of development in Access Control solutions for almost 10 years, specialising in the student accommodation sector. All their locks feature RFID ‘contactless’ technology, working in a similar way to modern debit and credit cards. Advantages over older systems include the keycards being exceptionally robust and, if lost, can be re-made instantly using on-site lock management software.
