LSBU and Greenhouse Sports team up

London South Bank University and Greenhouse Sports announce partnership in bid to boost sport for London's young people

London-based charity, Greenhouse Sports, and London South Bank University’s (LSBU) have entered a partnership that will see Greenhouse Sports contribute inspirational sports coaches and LSBU share their recently refurbished sports facilities. The partnership will extend and enrich LSBU’s high-calibre sports programmes and also serves to enhance Greenhouse Sports’ community sports provision.

The initial stages of the partnership will have a predominant focus on the LSBU Academy of Sport’s Basketball Programme and Greenhouse Pioneers Basketball Club. The new partnership means that athletes from both basketball programmes will be able to attend one another’s team sessions, with Greenhouse Pioneers sharing LSBU’s on-campus sports facilities, and coaches from Greenhouse’s extensive sports coaching programmes supporting the development of LSBU student sports.

The Academy of Sport is LSBU’s hub for sport, with facilities open to students, staff and the local community. The Academy of Sport’s Elite Sports Programme, one of the largest university sports programmes in the UK, also provides financial support to talented sports players seeking to combine their studies at LSBU with high level training and development in their chosen sport.

Phil Newman, Head of Sport and Recreation at LSBU's Academy of Sport said: “It’s a great opportunity for us to further entwine LSBU’s Academy of Sport in the surrounding community and to form a mutually beneficial partnership with one of London’s finest charities for sports in the community.

“In its earliest stages it is great to give our students on the elite sports programme access to truly inspirational coaches and frequent competitive matches with London Greenhouse Pioneers Basketball Club.”
