Lord Hastings to be next Regent's Chancellor

Lord Michael Hastings CBE, Global Head of Corporate Citizenship at KPMG, announced as next Chancellor of Regent's University

The first Head of Corporate Responsibility at the BBC, and a former Head of Public Affairs from 2003-6, Lord Hastings will take on his official duties at Regent’s following a special installation ceremony in February 2017.

He is a Trustee of the Vodafone Group Foundation and was a non-executive Director of British Telecom, on the Board for Responsible and Sustainable Business, for nine years. Currently he is Global Director of outreach and corporate social responsibility at KPMG. These are topics that at the heart of Regent’s values.

Lord Hastings is also a Vice President of UNICEF (UK) and Tearfund, and in 2005 was awarded an independent peerage to the House of Lords.

He will be Regent’s second Chancellor and takes over the position from Professor John Drew, who has held the post from July 2013 to the present day.

Lord Hastings commented: “Universities have a key role to play in discussing the critical issues facing the world and sharing knowledge, and Regent’s has a proud heritage of achievement in both of these areas.

“I look forward to meeting with students and staff at this exciting time in the University’s history.”

Regent’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Aldwyn Cooper, added: “To have Michael as our next Chancellor is a huge honour. He has an unrivalled standing in the business and political arenas and will act as a great inspiration to us all.

“His commitment to outreach and corporate social responsibility are key education elements at Regent’s and we look forward to working with Michael in these areas.

“I would also like to pay tribute to John, who has supported Regent's since it was established 28 years ago. His diplomatic, commercial and academic expertise epitomise the values we seek to inspire in our own graduates.”
