Let's go international

Study trips are great learning experiences and the University Hospitality Seminars (UHS) trip in association with Welbilt to Dubai was no exception

David McKown, Director of UHS commented: “The tour was a great opportunity to learn about World Class Hospitality in the UAE.”

The tour included visits to the The British University in Dubai, The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management and the Madinat Jumeirah a resort that offers authentic Arabic hospitality.

The week-long visit commenced with a tour of authentic Indian street food and restaurant operators accompanied by Cyrus Todiwala OBE. Cyrus joined delegates from Lancaster, Sheffield, Leeds, Edinburgh and Nottingham universities to share his knowledge and passion for spice.

Andy Daniels from Welbilt, also took the group to a number of Levant food operators, in and around Dubai who use equipment such as Merrychef and Convotherm to deliver an outstanding innovative service.

David McKown added: “The group benefited from an inspirational trip and one of my personal highlights was an opportunity to learn about the student experience at the Emirates Academy with a great presentation from Dr Stuart Jauncey, Dean of the Academy." 

The Delegation also met Vice Chancellor Abdullah Mohammed Alshamsi at The British University in Dubai, who was a graduate of Leeds University. 

One of the networking events during the trip was a desert experience that included an Arabic banquet.
