Organised and hosted by the comprehensive university comparison site, Whatuni.com, who help students find the right university and course for them, the day event is the annual Insights Day, and the Whatuni Student Choice Awards gala kicks off in the evening.
The Insights Day
Using the latest data and student opinion (gathered from Whatuni’s 92,000 student reviews and Insights tool) as well insider information from the industry, the Insights day will explore what teaching excellence means, what students really want from higher education and how universities can use this information to effectively market themselves.
You’ll also learn about the latest national initiatives relating to student experience, hear about strategies that can improve that and how you can use your marketing to both attract prospective students as well as delivering an excellent experience for current students to help retain them for the future.
Throughout the day there will be panel discussions, debates and talks from a range of guest speakers from across the industry. This includes Mark Leach, the editor of Wonkhe, Jim Dickson, Chief Executive at the Union of UEA Students, Carl Lygo, the Vice Chancellor of BPP University and Emma Leech, the Director of Marketing and Advancement at Loughborough University. The debates will cover issues like, “How does higher education need to evolve over the next decade?” and “Are universities doing enough to listen and act on the student voice?”
Suitable for those at Marketing Director, Market Insight and Student Experience level, key topics from previous Insights Days have included employability, understanding the changing student recruitment landscape and retention issues.
Student Choice Awards
The Insights Day will be followed by the Whatuni Student Choice Awards. Attended by over 300 figures from the HE industry and getting bigger every year, the evening features a gala dinner, offers networking opportunities and celebrates universities who topped the Whatuni student satisfaction scores and went that extra mile to improve student experience.
So how is student satisfaction judged for the Student Choice Awards? Throughout the year, university students submit reviews and ratings about their university to Whatuni.com (both online and to the Whatuni team when they visit campuses), on 13 aspects of student life at their particular university. This includes the university’s facilities, students’ union, course and lecturers and how supported they feel. Those who have the highest score in each category win. This year over 24,000 students rated their university, and 128 universities have entered the official Whatuni rankings.
Previous best university winners have included Harper Adams, Loughborough University and Swansea University, but who will take the crown this year? There’s also a special host who oversees the evening, and with previous hosts including Hugh Dennis and Jimmy Carr, you’re guaranteed to be in safe hands.
And with more student reviews submitted and universities ranked than ever before, hundreds of higher education experts attending, and a ton of useful and insightful data that could change how you market your university forever, you’ll get more than just a few business cards if you attend the events.
