The Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Civica to work alongside HESA on the Data Futures data collection system. Data Futures is HESA’s ambitious programme to deliver a modernised and more efficient approach to collecting data and information from more than 250 higher education providers across the UK.

Civica Digital - Civica’s newly formed digital division that is delivering a new generation of digital services from concept to implementation – will develop a user-centred solution to provide the higher education sector with the ability to collect, explore and utilise their data more efficiently. With richer insights across multiple areas including student recruitment, retention and performance, the users of HESA will be able to improve decision-making and keep pace with the evolving and dynamic sector.

The appointment follows a year-long procurement process during which Civica showed a clear understanding of the challenges and goals of the Data Futures programme. HESA managers were impressed by Civica’s expertise in software development and user-experience. Civica will work with the Data Futures team at HESA to develop the technology underpinning the Data Futures programme.

Data collection, management and analysis are becoming a top priority for many organisations throughout the public sector.

Adrian Crossley, Director of Technology at HESA, said:

“Civica engaged very enthusiastically with us throughout the procurement. They put in significant effort to understand our business and to prototype some really exciting ideas, which they conveyed clearly and convincingly in their bid. I’m sure the Data Futures team are looking forward to working closely with them, initially to develop a detailed design by the end of July.

Chris Doutney, newly appointed ‎Managing Director of Civica Digital, comments:

“Data collection, management and analysis are becoming a top priority for many organisations throughout the public sector. Our work with the Data Futures team at HESA will support a new collection model that will allow HESA and its customers to collect, explore and exploit their data much more quickly, delivering insight and value sooner.

The Data Futures programme aims to deliver a new approach to data collection beginning in 2019/20: https://www.hesa.ac.uk/innovation/data-futures
