The five teams selected for the final by Andrew Bennett MBE are Cambridge Regional College, Forth Valley College, Eagle & Child in Ramsbottom, Colchester Institute and Sheffield City College.

Each team consists of two chefs and one waiter, all aged 21 or under and the final takes place on the eve of the Skills for Chefs Conference in Sheffield, 1-2 July. This year’s theme is to prepare and serve a South Asian themed dinner to four guests and an esteemed panel of judges.

David McKown, Director of the Skills for Chefs Conference commented: "This year we received the highest number of entries in the history of the competition. All the menus were full of mouth-watering dishes that certainly made the task of selecting the finalists very difficult". The final decision was based on each team’s effort in describing the food and beverages that would be served and the recipes submitted.

The panel of judges for the competition this year includes Cyrus Todiwala OBE who is renowned for his knowledge of South Asian Cuisine.

David McKown added: "We’re delighted that Cyrus can join us for the competition and I'm sure all the teams will rise to the occasion."

The winners will be announced at the Skills for Chefs Gala Dinner on Thursday 2 July, held in Firth Hall at The University of Sheffield. The Skills for Chefs Conference aims to showcase the talents of leading chefs, for them to share skills and knowledge and to build strong culinary-based networks with colleagues and suppliers from the UK.

Details on the 18th Annual Skills for Chefs Conference featuring Cyrus Todiwala OBE, Daniel Clifford, Chris Holland, Rupert Rowley, Colin McGurran, Nick Burke, Adam Smith, Richard Bertinet and Matt Gillan can be found at or call 0114 222 8983.
