Falmouth launches online course programme

Falmouth University set for global student numbers expansion through partnership with Cambridge Education Group

http://flexible.falmouth.ac.ukFalmouth University has launched a new strategic partnership with Cambridge Education Group (CEG) to open up the arts university to the world’s creative community through online only courses.

From the 2016-17 academic year, Falmouth will offer a portfolio of four new flexible and part-time Masters programmes – Advertising and Marketing, Creative App Development, Creative Events Management, and Photography – which are purposely designed for professionals in-work and are primary delivered online with opportunities for face-to-face workshops at Falmouth or regional centres around the world.

CEG will help Falmouth University to develop, market and deliver the courses to students in the UK and worldwide. The courses will be led by existing Falmouth academics, and supported by specialist tutors. Falmouth will retain overall control of academic and quality assurance. Students will be registered at Falmouth and will receive a Falmouth degree upon successful graduation. For international students there is no requirement to gain a visa due to the very nature of the part-time and blended learning courses offered.

We know that Falmouth is proud of its 97% employability rate and a self-employment ratio five times above the national average, and these part-time, flexible learning courses will undoubtedly help the students accelerate their career trajectory in their industry

“Our new strategic plan demonstrates our intention to expand and diversify, become internationally significant and, above all, help our graduates to get great jobs,” explained Professor Geoff Smith, Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Falmouth University.

“We know that Falmouth is proud of its 97% employability rate and a self-employment ratio five times above the national average, and these part-time, flexible learning courses will undoubtedly help the students accelerate their career trajectory in their industry,” said Geoff Webster, Managing Director of CEG Digital.

The partnership responds to a growing and pressing need in the HE sector, Webster said: “Global demand for post-secondary education is expected to rise from 165 million in 2013 to 263 million by 2025. If this demand was to be met by traditional delivery, it would require four universities to open every week for 10 years.

“While technological developments have enabled universities to explore new models of delivery, transitioning to high-quality full university programmes at scale requires dedicated resources, funding and larger capacity for risk than most institutions are willing to bear. This is where we come in – we offer a unique combination of financial resources, pedagogical expertise in a sophisticated digital environment, global market knowledge and a global salesforce.”

Sir John Sunderland, Non-Executive Chairman of Cambridge Education Group, said: “Our innovative approach to part-time, flexible learning brings an opportunity to introduce university programmes to new, untapped audiences, throughout the world. Crucially, for universities, it will increase student volumes without stress on physical infrastructure and provide the ability to scale rapidly.”
