BUCS Conference 2016

Disruptive Innovation, opportunities for sport in higher education

Posted by Rebecca Paddick | August 16, 2016 | Sports & leisure

Held at the University of Warwick on 12th-15th July, the theme of this year’s British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) conference was ‘Disruptive Innovation,’ challenging members to think about the way sport and physical activity is organised, managed, delivered and consumed.

BUCS was privileged to have its Patron, HRH Princess Royal, in attendance , who met a number of members and delivered a keynote address.

Other highlights of the Conference included a regional active challenge throughout the week, in partnership with Hi-Motiv and the first BUCS Conference Regional Sports Festival in partnership with Outgoing. A number of NGBs were present during the festival showcasing their recreational sporting offer to universities.

"As BUCS partners for the past 8 years on the Surf Championships,  working alongside them on the Rugby finals at Twickenham and Mountain Bike Championships it’s good to see the organisation flourishing and going from strength to strength," said Ian Boulger, Head of Events, Outgoing.

He added: "BUCS and Warwick hosted our best conference experience to date with ideal venues, location of accommodation, a record number of delegates, range of sessions on offer and some great guest speakers to note just a few areas. It’s always an exciting event to attend for us as we get to see many new faces as well as catching up with old friends. We are looking forward to a great year ahead in University sport."
