Bringing home the gold

Compass' culinary elite stepped up to the plate at ExCeL, London, to showcase their team spirit and award-winning talents

After an impressive display from its chefs at Hotelympia last week, Compass Group UK & Ireland returned home as culinary champions, having won 102 awards, including 21 gold awards and 16 best in class.

Across the four day event, Compass’ top team of chefs; Bob Brown, (team captain), Chris Terry, Richard Abbott, Neil Rankin, James Hart and Clark Crawley, worked with diligence in order to demonstrate their artisan flair and ability to create innovative dishes with fresh produce; a feat that is delivered on a daily basis across the business. In a collective effort, the six chefs competed against seven other teams as part of a three course dining experience, cooking for visitors and their guests. In addition to the plethora of awards they brought home, the culinary team were further awarded for their hard work, winning gold at La Parade des Chefs.

In total, 10 apprentices carried on Compass’ winning streak, walking away from the competition with three certificates of merit, three bronze awards and one silver. The team of young chefs also volunteered to lend a helping hand in preparing over 150 starters for a three course meal, due to be served to 700 guests, as part of the Springbard charity evening meal.

Culinary Director at Compass, Nick Vadis, said: “I am incredibly proud of the skill and dedication our chefs have shown at Hotelympia, and I’m absolutely thrilled we have come away as the overall winners of La Parade des Chefs. This show gives us an opportunity to demonstrate the skill, passion and expertise that our Compass culinary teams have in abundance.”

Our junior chefs of today are our head chefs of tomorrow, and the standard of our junior entries at Hotelympia this year has been immensely impressive.
