Plans for £130-million student residences to help meet the growing demand for high-quality accommodation, will get underway following planning approval.
The scheme, which will enhance and expand the student accommodation we have on campus, will offer a range of single rooms and one bedroom apartments to a further 1,462 students. It received unanimous approval from Hull City Council.
A range of accommodation types will be on offer to meet the needs of all students, and a central plaza and thoroughfare will offer facilities on their doorstep.
The University of Hull is working with University Partnerships Programme (UPP) who will raise the required investment and handle the design, construction and operation of the project. The construction value of the project is more than £80 million.
The long term partnership between the university and UPP aims to meet the growing demand for high quality, on-campus accommodation.

Students increasingly want premium, high-quality accommodation. This development ensures that the University is able to meet those needs, as well as increase the number of students who can live on-campus, in high-quality, managed and secure accommodation.

The West Campus Residences Project will contribute to the university’s commitment to offering the best student experience and help continue to attract high-calibre students and staff, who bring an exciting range of talent and cultures to the city and enhance the local area. We’re proud to be investing so significantly in making Hull a highly desirable place to live, work, study, visit and invest.”
The location will provide the perfect base for students to attend lectures and enjoy everything the University has to offer on campus, including the new sports facilities, newly-refurbished Brynmor Jones Library, cinema and new concert venue at Middleton Hall opened for 2017.
Amy Jackson, Vice-President Activities at Hull University Union says students are increasingly looking for high-quality on-campus accommodation when deciding where to study.
She said: “Students want a great experience when they come to university and their accommodation is a huge part of that. For many students it is the first time they have moved away from home and students spend a long time looking at accommodation before they make a choice. This investment is a real plus for the University of Hull and once it’s finished will be a fantastic addition for students. Having high-spec accommodation like this, following on from the opening of the Courtyard, will put the University of Hull up there in terms of student living.”
The scheme is in addition to the £200 million investment programme, already underway, as part of the university’s commitment to provide an outstanding experience for its students, which includes new and refurbished buildings, IT infrastructure and student services.
The university is also investing close to £16-million in new sports facilities, including a new floodlit outdoor pitch, gym, fitness studios and a 12-court sports hall.
The project is one of several significant investments at the university, including: The Courtyard, a £30 million development of accommodation for 562 students on campus; a £28 million Health Campus currently under construction; and a £7 million refurbishment of dining and conferencing facilities on campus.
